Behind every sister city relationship is a dedicated group of volunteers working to keep that international connection active, relevant, and meaningful over time.

While every committee develops its own rhythm, strong committees often:

  • maintain ongoing communication with their partner city
  • organize cultural, educational, and public programs
  • support student, professional, and civic exchanges
  • welcome international visitors and delegations to Denver
  • identify opportunities for collaboration and community partnership
  • help local residents engage with global cultures and perspectives

What Our Sister Cities Are Doing Right Now

While many people only see sister cities during large public events, much of the real work happens continuously throughout the year — through committees, volunteers, exchanges, and community partnerships that keep these international relationships active and meaningful.

Right now across Denver Sister Cities International:

  • The Ulaanbaatar committee is preparing for the 4th Morin Khuur Festival and coordinating upcoming delegation exchanges tied to 35 years of Colorado–Mongolia friendship.
  • The Takayama committee continues organizing cultural exchange opportunities and planning future student and community engagement programs.
  • The Axum committee is supporting humanitarian initiatives, healthcare partnerships, and long-term recovery efforts connected to the region.
  • The Kunming committee continues building cultural programming through food, art, festival, and educational exchange activities.
  • The Brest committee is celebrating jazz diplomacy and the enduring cultural connections between Denver and Brest.
  • The Potenza committee is preparing community events and supporting future student exchange opportunities through local fundraising and cultural programming.

Across all 10 sister city relationships, volunteers continue building connections that strengthen Denver’s global relationships through culture, education, civic engagement, and people-to-people diplomacy.
